A one-year wave data campaign has commenced in the Caribbean island of Martinique to gather information that will chart the path for the development of a pilot wave energy project. Danish wave energy company Wavepistonentered into an agreementin 2023 with French firm YS Energies Marines Developpement (YS EMD) for the development of the wave energy project. In succession of the work started under this partnership, Wavepiston entered a collaboration with CreOcean to perform a wave data campaign on Martinique’s east coast. The French firm has installed a wave buoy, which will collect wave data for 12 months on Martinique’s Atlantic coast to advance the understanding of the local wave resource. This will bring Wavepiston closer to the deployment of a pilot farm, followed by a commercial wave energy farm. The budget is €63,000, with the project receiving funding from ADEME. “Furthermore, the project will receive local support on engaging with local politicians and landowners. Getting the buy-in from local stakeholders is very important for the development of Wavepiston wave energy farms,”Wavepiston said. We’ve tested the top Thunderbolt 5 docks on the market, combining six into one battle for the crown.
We've taken the top six Thunderbolt 5 docks we could get our hands on and put them into a six-way battle for supremacy. We’ve previously taken a look at a couple of popular Thunderbolt 4 docks on the market, including theIvanky FusionDock Max 1 and the Amazon Basics Thunderbolt 4 Pro Dock. However, with Thunderbolt 5 now on the market and proliferating on desktop motherboards and laptops, we’ve decided to take a look at what’s available in the Thunderbolt 5 dock market. This time around, we’ve assembled the CalDigit TS5 and the brawnier TS5 Plus, along with the Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock, the Ivanky FusionDock Ultra, Hyper HyperDrive Next, and WAVLINK WL-UTD58. As an added data point, we also have an Orico Thunderbolt 5 SSD enclosure for testingexternal storagespeeds over Thunderbolt 5. Let's take a look at the contenders, then get to thebenchmarks, and finally crown the winner. The TS5 is already impressive in its own right, but the$499 TS5 Plusdials up the specs a notch or two. While the TS5 includes 15 ports, the TS5 Plus bumps that to 20. The design of the TS5 Plus closely resembles the TS5, but it is slightly taller and features a space grey finish instead of natural aluminum. As for the port arrangement, this is what you’ll find on the TS5 Plus: Front Back Get Tom's Hardware's best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox. As you can see, the TS5 Plus is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to ports. While it loses one downstream Thunderbolt 5 port, it gains a DisplayPort 2.1 port. You’ll also find three additional USB-C ports and a total of four USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports on the back. CalDigit also managed to squeeze an extra USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port on the front of the unit. You’ll also appreciate that the onboard LAN port has been upgraded to 10 GbE (up from 2.5 GbE). In addition, external monitor support remains unchanged from the TS5, allowing you to connect up to four monitors to a M5 Max-equipped Mac. If the CalDigit docks are all-business with a Mac-infused aluminum unibody style, the$399 Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock Chromadefinitely shows its PC gaming roots. The dock features an anodized black aluminum chassis with an etched Razer logo on top. However, Razer plays up the gamer angle with a Chroma RGB light ring at the base of the unit, visible along the front and sides of the chassis. If this motif is a bit much for your aesthetic tastes, Razer also offers a “Mercury” version of the dock that features a more subdued natural aluminum finish (it’s also $10 cheaper). Thunderbolt docks are known for their propensity to generate a lot of heat, and Razer’s offering is no exception. However, Razer tackles this challenge with a built-in cooling fan that helps to dissipate heat. But active cooling isn’t the only trick up Razer’s sleeve; it also has a built-in PCIe Gen 4x4 M.2 slot on the bottom of the unit. This is a toolless addition: the bottom cover is easily removed using a clip retention system, and the SSD is held in place by a rotating retention clip. Thermal pads are also included that touch the top and bottom of the SSD to help dissipate heat and avoid throttling. Razer’s solution is ingenious since your SSD is hidden away from view with access to the internal cooling fan, and you don’t have to give up an external port to connect a USB-C/Thunderbolt SSD enclosure. Speaking of ports, the Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock isn’t as well-stocked as the two CalDigit docks. You’ll find: Razer has made a few decisions with its Thunderbolt 5 dock that I question. The UHS-II SD slot is mounted on the right side of the unit, which is easy enough to access, but there are no front-mounted ports. All of the remaining ports are on the back of the unit. It would have been nice to have at least one USB-C port and one USB-A port on the front of the unit to quickly connect a thumb drive or other frequently used accessories. The other curious choice is the 1 GbE port on the back of the dock. This is a Thunderbolt 5 dock – I’d expect at least a 2.5 GbE port, and ideally a 10 GbE port, at this price point ($399). The CalDigit TS5 gives you a 2.5 GbE port, while the TS5 Plus offers a 10 GbE port. With that said, the dock supports up to 120 Gbps (80 Gbps for data and 40 Gbps for video) and delivers up to 140W to a laptop. It also supports up to three 4K monitors simultaneously operating at up to 144 Hz. TheWAVLINK WL-UTD58-Mis another solidly built Thunderbolt 5 dock, and its chassis is made entirely of high-quality aluminum. The chassis is relatively long and flat, and can only be used in a landscape orientation (unlike the two CalDigit offerings). There are plenty of ventilation slots along the sides and top of the WL-UTD58-M to help keep the internals cool. Design-wise, I have one issue with the WL-UTD58-M. Power plugs into the back of the dock, while the Thunderbolt cable coming from the host computer plugs into the front of the dock. It makes for a cluttered appearance, and I would have preferred the upstream Thunderbolt 5 port to be on the back, like it is with other docks we have here in this comparison. With that said, you get a decent allotment of ports, including: Front Back There are handy SD and microSD slots on the front of the unit, along with two USB-A and one user-accessible Thunderbolt 5 port (the other is for the host computer). On the back, you’ll find two more Thunderbolt 5, two more USB-A, and a 2.5 GbE port. Like the Razer and Hyper docks, the WL-UTD58-M includes an M.2 PCIe Gen 4x4 on the bottom of the device. The bottom panel is held in place by a single screw and can accommodate a 2280-form-factor SSD. There are no provisions included for securing shorter SSDs. TheIvanky FusionDock Ultrais an ambitious product targeted at a limited set of users. While the other Thunderbolt 5 docks assembled here are compatible with Macs and Windows PCs, the FusionDock Ultra is only compatible with Macs. And limiting its reach even further, it's only compatible with Apple Silicon Macs. And yet another limitation is that, because the dock uses two Thunderbolt 5 chips, you must give up two Thunderbolt ports on your Mac. However, if you have an Apple Silicon Mac, the number of ports available to you is unmatched by the FusionDock Ultra. If you thought the TS5 Plus was impressive with 20 ports, the FusionDock Ultra ups the stakes with 26 ports, made possible by the dual Thunderbolt 5 chips. To keep the internal circuits cool, Ivanky uses twin cooling fans to expel hot air from the enclosure. The fans are dynamic, spinning up only when necessary, depending on the load. The dock itself is quite attractive, with a Space Grey finish, gold trimming, and a "floating midframe design" in which the main unit is surrounded by an outer heatsink. Front Back It’s hard to be disappointed with the sheer number and variety of ports available on the FusionDock Ultra. It’s absolutely bonkers to see 7 USB-C ports on the front of the unit, although having access to four fully-fledged Thunderbolt 5 ports on the back is great. It’s also nice to see dedicated HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1 ports, along with an S/PDIF jack. And as you would expect with such a high-end dock, there’s a 10 GbE port onboard as well. About the only thing missing from the FusionDock Ultra is an internal M.2 SSD slot, but given the number of ports available, we won’t hold a grudge over the omission. To test SSD speeds with the assembled Thunderbolt 5 docks, we used an Orico Thunderbolt80G enclosure. This is an aluminum-alloy Thunderbolt 5 enclosure that supports up to M.2 (PCIe Gen4x4) SSDs. The Thunderbolt80G enclosureretails for $165 on Amazon. A single screw is removed to lift off the ribbed bottom panel, which reveals the internal M.2 slot. Orico provides a thermal pad for affixing to your SSD, which is then secured with a screw. A single 80 Gbps Thunderbolt 5 cable is also included in the box. Hyper's $399 HyperDrive Next Thunderbolt 5 dockfeatures a dark grey aluminum chassis, but it's not a full aluminum shell like the other docks assembled here. Instead, both the front and rear fascias are mae of plastic, which doesn't impart the same feeling of quality. The top of the enclosure is smooth to the touch, while both sides feature a ribbed design to better disperse heat. Front Back The $399 dock features a dedicated power button on the front (something that you won't find on the other docks) and includes a 2.5 GbE network port on the back. Interestingly, Hyper doesn't equip the dock with an SD or microSD slot. You do get a good assortment of ports up front, including one Thunderbolt 5 and two USB-A, along with two additional Thunderbolt 5 downstream ports on the back. The HyperDrive Next includes an integrated SSD slot (PCIe Gen 4x4) for storage expansion. The dock includes mounting points for 2230, 2242, 2260, or 2280 SSDs, providing plenty of flexibility. There are also thermal pads included for both sides of the SSD to aid in cooling (which is important given that Thunderbolt docks, in general, tend to get rather toasty). The HyperDrive Next supports up to 80 Gbps for data and 40 Gbps for video, and is compatible with up to 140-watt charging to a connected laptop. When connected to a PC, the dock supports up to one 8K/144 Hz display or up to two 8K displays running at 120 Hz. If you're using a Mac, a single display to 6K resolution and 60 Hz is supported, or dual 6K displays at up to 60 Hz. Windows machines can also support triple 4K monitors at 60 Hz, while Macs can only support this configuration if equipped with an M5 Pro (or higher) SoC. CalDigit's "TS" line comprises its high-end Thunderbolt docks (with the "Element" line being a step below). The$399 TS5 is the entry pointfor CalDigit's high-end Thunderbolt 5 docks. CalDigit hasn't broken any new ground with the TS5's design, as it looks similar to the TS3 and TS4 that came before it. That means you get a passively cooled dock that can sit either horizontally or vertically, depending on your needs. The chassis is machined from aluminum, which matches almost perfectly with the natural aluminum found on Apple's silver MacBooks. There's also a collection of cooling fins on the sides to help dissipate heat. Despite being the entry-level model, the TS5 packs a wealth of ports: Front Back The TS5 supports up to 120 Gbps (80 Gbps data, 40 Gbps video) and external SSDs at up to 6,200 Mbps (twice as fast as previous-generation Thunderbolt 4 docks). In addition, it supplies up to 140W power delivery to a connected laptop. When it comes to monitor support, the TS5 can support up to four external monitors simultaneously. Properly spec'd Macs and PCs can support up to three external monitors. Only Macs with an M5 Max processor can support four monitors at once (up to four 6K at 60 Hz or four 4K at 144 Hz). We first tested the SSD in our test system, which features an Asus Z890 Creator WiFi motherboard with an onboard PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot and two Thunderbolt 4 ports. Next, we tested the Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock with the CS2150 installed into the internal M.2 slot. Finally, we tested the CalDigit TS5 and TS5 Plus connected to the CS2150 within the Orico SSD enclosure via a Thunderbolt 5 port. We ran a quick test with CrystalDiskMark, which is a free benchmarking tool, to see how each dock handled the PNY CS2150 SSD. For baseline numbers, we saw 10,381.26 MBps reads and 8,645.4 MBps writes using the CS2150 on an Asus Z890 Creator WiFi motherboard. Switching to the Razer Chroma 5 Dock, the sequential reads and writes dropped to 5,627.29 MBps and 5,620.6 MBps, respectively. Not surprisingly, the CalDigit TS5 and TS5 Plus posted nearly identical performance, at just over 5,300 MBps sequential reads and 5,520 MBps sequential writes. It should be noted that all three docks cite a theoretical maximum of 6,200 Mbps transfers (64Gb/s PCIe 4.0 interface). Given that the FusionDock Ultra is only supported on Apple Silicon Macs, I couldn’t run our CrystalDiskMark benchmarks on the CS2150. However, when using the CS2150 with an Orico SSD enclosure connected to a free Thunderbolt 5 port on the back, I recorded read speeds of just over 3,000 MBps and write speeds of over 2,500 MBps using BlackMagic Disk Speed Test. Keep in mind, however, that the FusionDock Ultra was limited to Thunderbolt 4 speeds on the MacBook Air (M4) that I used for testing. I had no trouble using any of the docks to run two monitors simultaneously, including a 49-inch, 240 Hz DQHD monitor. Each dock worked impeccably with myWindows 11Home desktop system (except the FusionDock Ultra, which is incompatible), an M5 MacBook Air, and an M4 Mac Mini. The latter two systems only support Thunderbolt 4, but the docks are backward compatible with the older, slower interface. There were also no issues using the onboard LAN ports, as I was able to reach the theoretical maximum on each port using iPerf3 testing across all three docks (including the 10 GbE port on the TS5 Plus and FusionDock Ultra). As for thermals, all remained warm to the touch, even when the host computer was idle. At no time did any become too hot to handle. The Razer Thunderbolt 5 and FusionDock Ultra docks were slightly cooler to the touch thanks to their internal fans (which are only audible if you stick your ear to the unit). Although Thunderbolt docks don’t really make much sense for most desktop systems, they are an incredible lifeline for laptops, which have a more limited port selection. You can take one Thunderbolt 5 port from your MacBook Pro and, in return, get 20 ports with a CalDigit TS5. Not only do they offer a “one cable” solution for data and power, but you also get a wide range of connectivity options across Thunderbolt, USB-C, USB-A, and SD/microSD. And in the case of the TS5, DisplayPort 2.1 and 10 GbE ports are part of the equation. The Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock is a sleek solution that provides an internal M.2 slot for storage expansion and Chroma RGB effects that can sync with your Razer laptop. However, I’m not thrilled with the lack of front-mounted ports or the lackluster GbE network port provided, given its $399 price tag. The CalDigit TS5 Plus is the overachiever of the bunch, offering a total of 20 ports and support for up to four external monitors (when connected to an M5 Max system). You get five legacy USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 ports, four USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports, a 10 GbE port, and more. However, that abundance of connectivity options results in ahefty price of $499. The CalDigit TS5 is not as port-packed as its “Plus” sibling, but it still offers three downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports along with a wealth of USB-A and USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 ports. Like the TS5 Plus, the TS5 also includes multiple front-mounted ports for USB-C,audio, and SD cards. The TS5 also one-ups the Razer Thunderbolt 5 Dock by including an integrated 2.5 GbE port instead of the old hat GbE. At astreet price of $399, the CalDigit TS5 is the best option for most people. The Hyper HyerDrive Next and WAVLINK WL-UTD58-M are both good options if you're looking to spend $400 or less. In addition, they both include an M.2 slot for expanding storage with an SSD. That leaves us with the Ivanky FusionDrive Ultra. This dock is an exercise in excess, from its elaborate design to its use of two Thunderbolt 5 chips to its requirement of two free Thunderbolt 4 ports. But in return, you get an insane 26 total ports, including seven USB-C ports up front and four Thunderbolt 5 on the back, along with HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, and 10 GbE ports. However, compatibility is extremely limited, working only on Apple Silicon Macs. In addition, with astreet price of $650, it’s by far the most expensive dock we tested. However, if it were money being spent on a Thunderbolt 5 docking station, I’d have to give the crown to the WAVLINK WL-UTD58-M. With a price tag of just over $250, an integrated M.2 slot, and a well-balanced assortment of ports, it’s hard to ignore its value proposition. Although we plan to keep this guide updated as we test additional Thunderbolt 5 docks, here are some additional units to consider: Brandon Hill is a senior editor at Tom's Hardware. Oslo-headquartered BW Offshore has made arrangements to keep its floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel occupied until the end of the current decade at its ongoing assignment in the North Sea on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS). The post BW Offshore’s FPSO staying until 2030’s end at North Sea field appeared first on Offshore Energy .
Oslo-headquartered BW Offshore has made arrangements to keep its floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel occupied until the end of the current decade at its ongoing assignment in the North Sea on the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS). While announcing a contract extension for theFPSO BW Catcher, BW Offshore disclosed an agreement with theCatcher fieldpartners to amend the contract period for the vessel. This unit is deployed at the Harbour Energy-operated Catcher field, around 173 kilometers southeast of Aberdeen, with associated fields, includingVaradero,Burgman, andLaverda. Marco Beenen, CEO of BW Offshore, commented:“We are strengthening the long‑term commercial framework for BW Catcher, adding material cash-flow visibility, while also improving our ability to market the unit for future opportunities. “The Catcher FPSO is a high-specification, harsh-environment asset, making it a highly valuable redeployment unit. In the current strong FPSO market, enhanced contractual clarity and flexibility are key drivers for unlocking additional value over time.” These amendments, effective from the start of February 2026, are said to convert the current contract into an agreement with a defined end-of-term framework to December 31, 2030, and remove the previous unilateral options for one-year extensions. This is expected to increase the company’s firm operating cash flow backlog by approximately $490 million as of that date. Since the revised contract structure provides BW Offshore with clarity on the end-of-contract timeline, it is interpreted to enable active marketing of the FPSO for new redeployment projects. The updated terms are perceived to reflect a discount equivalent to 10% of the current bareboat charter day rate, applied as an offset against the operations and maintenance (O&M) day rate. In addition, the parties have agreed on a revised production tariff structure from 2028 that introduces a cap linked to prevailing oil prices, while maintaining the existing tariff framework. This FPSO extension comes shortly after BW Offshorewona front-end engineering and design (FEED) deal for an FPSO set to work at Equinor’s oil project off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The Honor MagicPad 4 impresses with its stylish, thin design, excellent specs, and incredible value for money.
Honor has delivered the perfect Android tablet with the MagicPad 4, addressing every single complaint I had with the previous model. Its attractive design is incredibly thin and lightweight, but the brand has still managed to cram in some strong specs that power through work and play. The OLED screen is absolutely gorgeous and a highlight at this price, especially paired with such a great speaker setup. With generous update support promised, this will be my go-to device for years to come. Incredibly thin and very lightweight Beautiful, high refresh rate OLED screen Unbelievable value Excellent speakers Almost unbeatable update support Great new PC mode Slight battery downgrade compared to the MagicPad 3 Why you can trust TechRadarWe spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you're buying the best.Find out more about how we test. With the Honor MagicPad 4, it’s hard not to think that the Chinese tech brand read myHonor MagicPad 3 reviewlast year and set out to address every single criticism that I raised. Honor advertises the MagicPad 4 as the slimmest tablet on the market — and for our money, that’s true. At just 4.8mm, it's incredibly thin (beating the already impressively slim 5.1mmiPad Proby a slight margin), which, combined with its light 450g weight, means the MagicPad 4 is a massive 12.3-inch tablet that’s easy to travel with and even hold comfortably in one hand. Although being the thinnest tablet makes for a decent ad campaign, it’s actually the wealth of other upgrades that put the Honor MagicPad 4 among thebest Android tabletsright now. Seriously, Honor fixed everything negative that I pointed out last year — it’s almost a little uncanny. The display is a gorgeous 3KOLEDwith a butter-smooth 164Hz OLED (compared to last year’s less vibrant LCD) and a superb 2,400-nit peak brightness. Paired with an incredibly punchy eight-speaker stereo setup, this has become my go-to tablet for media consumption both at home and while travelling. With a viewing experience this good, it’s almost no surprise that this is one of the few IMAX Enhanced-certified tablets on the market. An OLED panel is no small feat at this price range, too, and the vibrant colors alone put the MagicPad 4 lightyears ahead of similarly priced competitors like theOnePlus Pad 3. The divisive plastic material of the MagicPad 3 is also out, replaced with a full metal unibody chassis that looks very premium and is so much better to the touch. This design refresh has been paired with a subtle spec upgrade under the hood. The MagicPad 4 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC, which is not quite the latest flagship chip, but a high-end offering that powers through productivity and holds its own in demanding games. You also get a beefy 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage (upgraded to 16GB and 512GB, respectively, if you splash out for the more expensive model that I tested). Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. Even this tablet's software has received a noticeable upgrade. MagicOS 10 is moreApple-like than ever (complete with its own version ofLiquid Glass), but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. As an ex-Apple user, I really appreciate the familiarity of MagicOS, and find that it’s perfectly easy-to-use while still offering a decent level of customization. Importantly, though, this latest incarnation finally introduces a proper desktop mode with taskbar and apps in resizable windows, and it’s hard to overstate how much of a difference this makes to productivity. I just about managed a full day of work with the MagicPad 3, but it was a little fiddly and awkward at times. Now, I can pack the MagicPad 4 for any business trip and, having already brought it with me on a couple, I haven’t found myself missing my laptop yet. Obviously, your mileage will vary depending on your specific tasks and software, but for my day-to-day work of responding to emails, updating spreadsheets, and typing away inGoogleDocs (with the optional keyboard add-on), I can’t complain. The only possible flaw here is the battery, which is smaller than that of the MagicPad 3. Still, the MagicPad 4's battery life remains excellent, and this tablet will easily put up with hours and hours of video playback in a single sitting. The Honor MagicPad 4 is available via Honor's website, where it starts at £599.99 for a 12GB + 256GB model. You can upgrade to the 16GB + 512GB model that I tested for an extra £100. That’s already amazing value for the specs (you’d struggle to find anything in this price range with an OLED screen alone), but as with other Honor products, you can expect a deluge of discounts and freebies to crop up throughout the year. At the time of writing, you can nab £100 off either version, and pay an extra £50 to add in a compatible keyboard case and the latest Honor Magic Pencil 3 stylus. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see free smartwatches, earbuds, chargers, and more thrown in over the coming months, so be sure to buy with at least a few freebies available to maximize value. Even if you pay the full asking price, you’re still getting a great deal, though. As with other Honor devices, the MagicPad 4 isn’t officially sold in the US, so it's very tricky to get there. Australian availability also seems limited. Here’s a look at the Honor MagicPad 4’s key specs: Dimensions: 273.4 x 178.8 x 4.8mm Operating system: MagicOS 10 (Android 16) Chipset: Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Weight: 450g Memory (RAM): 12GB / 16GB Storage: 256GB / 512GB Display: 12.3 inch 1920 x 3000 165Hz OLED Cameras: 12MP wide, 9MP selfie Battery: 10,100 mAh silicon carbon Connectivity: USB Type-C 3.2 The most impressive aspect of the MagicPad 4’s design is, of course, its thinness. This is currently the slimmest tablet you can buy, beating even the high-end iPad Pro, and it looks seriously thin in person. In fact, there seems to have been barely enough room to cram in the USB Type-C charging port. You might think that this slight profile would make the MagicPad 4 feel cheap or flimsy, but that's not the case. The tablet has a wholly metal body, consisting of a single piece with no visible manufacturing seams. There’s absolutely no flex if you try to bend it, and my unit has picked up no noticeable scratches or marks in my use so far. The MagicPad 4’s thinness isn’t just for show either — on top of being easy to chuck into your backpack, I found that it made the tablet very easy to hold in one hand. I conducted an hour and twenty-minute-long interview with the MagicPad 4 gripped in my left hand for notes, and experienced no noticeable fatigue. The interviewee even asked what brand the tablet was when we wrapped up, and remarked on how thin and light it looked. The screen is large and spacious, with roughly 4mm bezels for a very modern appearance. There’s actually a little 9MP selfie cam nestled in there at the top, but it’s hard to see outside of direct sunlight. This camera isn’t amazing, but it gets the job done for video calls and would be on the better end of most laptop webcams. It’s a similar story with the rear 12MP shooter, found in a square camera module alongside the flash. It’s good enough to scan documents, but you obviously shouldn’t be using (or even expect to use) a massive tablet like this for your holiday snaps. Please, just take a few extra seconds to pull out your phone like a normal person. For sound, you’re getting an eight-speaker stereo setup that’s impressively clear and crisp. The bass isn’t as strong as that of thicker tablets, but it still offers a detailed and well-rounded listening experience. As someone who routinely uses tablets to watch entire concert recordings with the sound blasting at full volume, I really value a good speaker setup, and the MagicPad 4 is up there as one of the best I’ve tested at this price. Just make sure that you go into the settings and turn off all of the Honor sound features that are, for some reason, enabled by default, as they can make everything sound artificially tinny. The tablet has all the expected buttons, namely a power button and volume rocker. There’s also a little magnetic strip for attaching the compatible Magic Pencil 3 stylus if you have one. And yes, Honor’s stylus will automatically charge and pair when stuck onto the tablet. Take notes,Lenovo. I tested the Honor MagicPad 4 in conjunction with the white Honor MagicPad 4 Smart Touch Keyboard. It seems very similar to the keyboard I was sent with the Honor MagicPad 3, and it's once again fantastic. It attaches to the tablet via a magnetic accessory port on its rear and pairs automatically. The touchpad is quick and responsive, the keys have a good level of travel, and it’s not too bulky to be practical. I do also still love the folding design of the stand, which folds down to expose the top half of the tablet and show off its slimness. On the display side of things, I can’t fault the Honor MagicPad 4 in any way. This is an absurdly good screen for the price, simply decimating what OnePlus, Lenovo, and especially Apple will give you for under £600. This 12.3-inch 1920 x 3000 (3K) OLED panel is pin-sharp and delightfully crisp, with vibrant colors and rich black shades. I’ve been on a bit of an anime binge, having recently renewed myCrunchyrollsubscription, and every show that I’ve dipped into has been absolutely beautiful to watch. Games look lovely too; the high-fidelity visuals of the recently releasedNeverness to Everness, for instance, really blew me away. And opening theKindleapp, the 3K resolution leads to great-looking text in books and detailed panels in comics. WithHDRsupport and a peak brightness of roughly 2,400 nits, the MagicPad 4's display can get jaw-droppingly bright and remains visible in even the strongest possible sunlight outdoors. Honor also deserves some kudos for applying a 5,280Hz PWM dimming rate to this screen. This subtle spec isn’t going to matter for most people, but could be a game-changer for those with sensitive eyes and massively reduces the chance of eye strain or fatigue over extended periods of use. Even if you’re just browsing the web or flicking through the system menus, motion is seriously smooth, too, as a result of the tablet's 165Hz refresh rate. The slightly pricierHuawei MatePad Pro 13.2is the only model I can think of that comes close to this level of display performance without asking that you pay a huge amount more, but that device has a lower refresh rate and is dimmer, so it loses to the MagicPad 4 overall in my book. In other words, whatever you’re watching, playing, or reading on the MagicPad 4, this tablet is simply perfect. Update support is one of my biggest concerns when buying an Android tablet. There are too many brands out there that will charge iPad prices while offering only two or three years of update support. Honor was actually guilty of this last year with the MagicPad 3, which only came with one Android version upgrade and two years of security patches (something I described as the device’s “fatal flaw”). This time around, Honor has promised six years of major Android updates for consumers in the EU. That’s without a doubt the best level of support I’ve seen for an Android tablet under £600, putting basically every other brand to shame. There’s no telling how regular these updates will be, but at least shoppers aren’t splashing out for a tablet with a looming expiration date right out of the box. As for MagicOS 10 (which is based on Android 15), the biggest change this time around, aside from the new Liquid-Glass-like design language, is the addition of an upgraded desktop mode. It features the option of a persistent taskbar (at last!) and displays apps in easily resizable windows that you can snap to different parts of the screen. It’s much less fiddly than the equivalent ‘Floating Window mode’ of MagicOS 9 and makes serious productivity on the MagicPad 4 much easier. Otherwise, my words from last year still ring true. In my eyes, MagicOS is the best possible middle ground between the attractive look of iOS and the customization offered by Android. Former Apple users will find the design of menus familiar, but with a few interesting twists here and there. Quirky customization features like the 3D Avatar — a little person that you can create and set as an animated wallpaper — are still present and just as charming as before. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 isn’t the latest and greatest flagship chipset, but it’s still a capable SoC that delivers great all-round performance when paired with 12GB (or 16GB) of RAM. The MagicPad 4's interface is always quick and responsive, with no noticeable slowdown or reloading when flicking between streams on the likes of Netflix,AmazonPrime Video, andYouTube. Effective multitasking is a piece of cake, too, and I've not had any issues running Gmail, Slack, Google Docs, and Chrome simultaneously as I work. The MagicPad 4 is also a capable gaming tablet. It supports both WiFi 7 for speedy game downloads and holds its own in even the most demanding titles.Delta ForceandZenless Zone Zeroboth run very smoothly at their default graphics presets, and I’ve been particularly impressed with how well the Honor MagicPad 4 handles the extremely graphically intensiveNeverness to Everness. It defaulted to the extreme graphics preset with 60fps cap and, despite the odd stutter in the most built-up areas of the city, was more than playable for driving around and tackling missions. This particular title looks absolutely breathtaking, and paired with a compatible gaming controller, you’re easily getting a console-quality experience when playing it on the MagicPad 4. The tablet's cooling system is remarkably effective as well. I was a little worried that such a thin tablet would get very hot, yet it’s not actually a big problem. You’ll feel it getting slightly warmer to the touch during sustained play, but it doesn’t become uncomfortably hot or thermal throttle to the extent that it noticeably impacts performance. Honor says this is all thanks to the MagicPad 4's dual-direction vapor chamber, which has somehow been crammed in alongside everything else. The battery is the only area where the Honor MagicPad 4 falls short in comparison to the MagicPad 3. This year’s tablet is powered by a slightly smaller 10,100mAh silicon-carbon cell, which shaves a few hours off the total running time. Luckily, you’ll likely not notice a dramatic difference, as the MagicPad 4 still packs a very big battery, and its battery life is still pretty impressive as a result. This tablet will easily last for a full day of use, with a mix of browsing the web, watching videos, and even a few hours of gaming thrown in there. I packed the tablet for a 14-hour flight and finished with more than 70% left in the tank after completing some decently heavy tasks with brightness cranked up and an intermittent WiFi connection. You can expect well over a week of juice from the MagicPad 4 if you only use it for an hour or two a day, which makes this a great choice if you’re looking for a tablet to keep around the house. When it does run low, charging times are refreshingly quick as well, with 66W wired speeds that should see it back up to full from zero in under an hour and a half with a compatible charger. Attributes Notes Rating Value Strong specs, a gorgeous OLED screen, premium build quality, and six years of software support. You’re not going to find a better value tablet at this price. 5 / 5 Design Record-breaking slimness aside, the new metal body is a huge upgrade compared to last year’s plastic and leads to a tablet that feels as good as it looks. 5 / 5 Display A bright and colorful 3K OLED panel with a high refresh rate, HDR support, and IMAX Enhanced certification. What more could you want? 5 / 5 Software The Apple-inspired UI is familiar and practical with some quirky features thrown in. 4.5 / 5 Performance The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset powers through general use and gaming. 5 / 5 Battery A small downgrade compared to the Honor MagicPad 3, but still more than enough juice to last through days of heavy use. 4 / 5 You want the thinnest tablet aroundThe Honor MagicPad 4 is the thinnest tablet you can buy right now, and is pretty light to boot. As a result, it’s very easy to pack in a bag and comfortable to hold in one hand. You’re craving a great OLED screenThe screen here is fantastic and, paired with the excellent speaker setup, makes kicking back with a movie or TV on the Honor MagicPad 4 a joy. You’re after a capable productivity tabletThanks to the upgraded desktop mode of MagicOS 10, the Honor MagicPad 4 finally feels like a true laptop replacement. Pair it with the excellent keyboard case and you have a great device for work. You need the Apple ecosystemAs Apple-like as it is, MagicOS is still Android. This means that you do miss out on exclusive iPad apps like Procreate, so stick with an Apple device if you need to use them. After some Honor MagicPad 4 alternatives? The older OnePlus Pad 3 is available at a lower price, while the iPad Air 13-inch is a good (albeit much more expensive) option for those who prefer the Apple ecosystem. Read our fullOnePlus Pad 3 review Apple iPad Air 13-inch (2024)If you’re willing to pay much more for an iPad, then the iPad Air 13-inch (2024) is the model to choose. It’s worse than the Honor MagicPad 4 in practically every regard, but does grant access to the Apple ecosystem and its exclusive apps, which is a big plus. The newer (and even more expensive)iPad Air (2025)is also worth considering, too. Read our fulliPad Air 13-inch (2024) review I tested the 16GB + 512GB version of the Honor MagicPad 4 for multiple months, using it on an almost daily basis as my go-to tablet for work and play. I watched a vast amount of video content on it, read some digital books and comics, and spent plenty of time browsing the web and gaming. I also took it with me on multiple business trips in place of my laptop, where I used it to edit documents and respond to emails. Throughout my time with the tablet, I frequently compared it to other models I've tested, including multiple iPads and both the Honor MagicPad 3 and Honor MagicPad 2. UK-based classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) has given its blessing to China-based provider of clean energy services Wison New Energies (WNE) for a new harsh environment floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) design featuring an internal turret mooring system. Lloyd’s Register has granted approval in principle (AiP) to Wison New Energies for a new harsh environment internal turret FPSO design, following an independent concept stage review by LR. This AiP is interpreted to mark an early technical milestone for a standardized floating production concept aimed at complex offshore conditions. Ian Crehan, Global Head of Energies Solutions at Lloyd’s Register, commented:“Floating production systems are becoming more complex, and the cost of getting early decisions wrong is rising. Independent assurance at concept stage helps reduce uncertainty and allows projects to move forward with greater technical confidence.” The UK-based classification society explains that the internal turret FPSOs are widely used in demanding metocean conditions, but remain among the most technically complex floating production systems, with critical interfaces between hull, mooring, risers, and topside layouts. By completing an independent concept-stage review, the AiP is said to help demonstrate that the FPSO concept can progress with a clearer view of key technical and safety considerations, supporting earlier, more confident decision-making by project stakeholders. Loy Wee Meng, Senior Product Manager of Wison New Energies’ FPSO Product Center, highlighted:“With design for harsh environment FPSO now completed, Wison has in addition to standard FPSO as well as gas type FPSO designs already developed, possessed the portfolio to undertake FPSO design for 90% of the current world FPSO demand.” Wison New Energies said the approval supports its work to develop FPSO designs that could be deployed more rapidly and reliably in challenging offshore regions. Indian equity markets remained under pressure on Friday amid escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia. Fresh exchanges of fire between the US and Iran near the Strait of Hormuz dampened investor sentiment and heightened volatility across global markets. Analysts said Indian equities are likely to stay highly sensitive to geopolitical developments and related news flow in the near term. At 2.04 pm, Sensex depreciated 667 pts or 0.86% to 77,176, and Nifty 50 fell 174 pts or 0.72% to 24,152. Despite the cautious market mood, Emkay Global Research remains constructive on Indian equities, expecting macroeconomic conditions and corporate earnings to recover once tensions surrounding Iran ease and the Strait of Hormuz reopens. Meanwhile, foreign institutional investors continued aggressive selling in April despite a sharp rebound in benchmark indices, pushing FII ownership in Indian equities to its lowest level since June 2012. Tata Power and Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation identify the 404 MW Nyera Amari I & II Integrated Hydropower Project for collaboration Tata Power shares flat on the NSE at Rs 438.20 Bitcoin traded near $79,800 on May 8, 2026. It slipped below the key $80,000 level after a volatile week. ETF outflows and fresh macro uncertainty added pressure to the market. The broader structure, however, remains relatively stable as institutional demand continues to absorb deeper corrections. Market participants are now shifting focus from momentum-driven upside to macro-sensitive positioning ahead of key U.S. economic data releases. Technically, Bitcoin faces immediate resistance in the $81,700–$82,800 range. A stronger breakout zone remains near the 200-day moving average around $83,300. On the downside, the first major support lies near $79,300, while stronger demand is expected in the $78,000–$78,500 region. Bitcoin could see a deeper pullback if these levels fail to hold. In that case, the price may move toward the mid-$74,000 zone. Previous buying activity had emerged around that level earlier this quarter. On-chain indicators continue to show mixed but constructive signals. Data tracked by CryptoQuant indicates long-term holders accumulated roughly 331,000 BTC over the past month. This suggests larger investors continue to buy during periods of consolidation rather than distribute aggressively. Exchange reserves also remain relatively subdued. This indicates immediate sell-side pressure is still limited despite recent volatility. ETF flows turned weaker during the May 7–8 period. According to Farside Investors, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded approximately $170 million in net outflows on May 7 after modest inflows earlier in the week. While single-day outflows are not uncommon after strong rallies. The slowdown indicates institutions are becoming more cautious ahead of macro events. Macro conditions are now the dominant short-term driver for crypto markets. Investors are closely watching the U.S. non-farm payrolls data and next week’s CPI inflation print for clues on Federal Reserve policy direction. Recent Fed commentary has reinforced expectations that rate cuts could remain delayed if inflation stays elevated. Treasury yields and dollar strength therefore remain critical variables for crypto assets. Among major altcoins, Ethereum traded near $2,275, BNB around $638, XRP near $1.38, and Solana close to $88. Large-cap altcoins continue to underperform Bitcoin. This suggests capital rotation into a broader altcoin cycle remains limited for now. Our advice: Bitcoin remains structurally resilient despite falling below $80,000. However, softer ETF flows and uncertainty around Fed rate expectations could increase near-term volatility. Investors should avoid excessive leverage near resistance zones and maintain disciplined risk management until macro conditions become clearer. Shares of Pidilite Industries climbed sharply in early Friday trade, riding a wave of investor optimism after the Fevicol maker posted robust quarterly earnings the previous evening. Stay tuned for more updates from businessline Ravi Singh – Chief Research Officer (Research) – Master Capital Services Limited The Nifty Midcap 100 continues to trade on higher note, recently shattering previous ceilings to hit a fresh record high. While large-cap indices like the Nifty 50 are struggling under the weight of global macroeconomic pressures, midcaps are practically running their own race. It essentially boils down to a potent mix of superior earnings, relentless domestic liquidity, and a clear shift in investor preference. Mid-sized companies—especially within sectors like capital goods, real estate, and auto ancillaries—have delivered standout quarterly earnings that heavily overshadow the sluggish growth seen in large-cap IT and banking giants. Furthermore, the sheer volume of retail money pouring in through mutual fund SIPs is providing an unprecedented liquidity cushion. Domestic investors are no longer waiting for foreign institutional cues; they are actively rotating their capital away from saturated, heavy-weight large caps to aggressively chase the higher domestic growth stories sitting in the midcap space. With the Nifty Midcap index trading in volatile zone, the million-dollar question for retail investors is whether to cash out or ride the wave. In the immediate short term, extreme caution is required. The recent vertical rally has pushed valuations in the broader market into deeply overbought zones. Many midcap stocks are now priced for perfection, leaving absolutely no room for earnings misses or negative global news. While the underlying fundamental growth story for these companies remains strong over a multi-year horizon, the immediate price action suggests the market is overdue for a healthy breather or consolidation. Market experts are strongly cautioning against aggressive, lump-sum buying at these peak levels. The smartest play right now is defensive profit-taking. Investors are advised to book partial profits in stocks that have run up too fast and disconnect from their fundamental value, while using trailing stop-losses to protect running gains on their remaining portfolio. Keeping some cash on the sidelines to deploy during the next market dip is the most prudent strategy for the coming weeks.

I lavori integrali disponibili sul sito telenord.it
Riusciamo a prendere tutti i dati conosciuti fino all'ultima frontiera del valore.
Droni subacquei possono accedere a profondità ingenti.
Molte imprese faticano a reperire competenze specifiche.

Alicante

The MSI Raider 16 Max HX is capable and has a great display to game on, but its hardware comes at a cost without bringing commensurate performance gains over the competition. Price When Reviewed This value will show the geolocated pricing text for product undefined Best Pricing Today MSI’s new Raider 16 Max HX is geared up to be the company’s most powerful 16-inch laptop, and it has the hardware to deliver. Boasting a new Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus at its heart, RTX 50-series graphics, and 300 watts of combined power, it has the potential to deliver. It also touts a killer display. But leading the pack proves to be a challenge even with the right kind of hardware to do it, and that hardware drives up the price considerably, making theLenovo Legion Pro 7i 16 Gen 10a better bet for most gamers. The RTX 5090 adds a lot to the price tag, but won’t do much in all gaming scenarios. The MSI Raider 16 Max HX has just a few configurations. They all share the specifications above, but differ in their graphics processors. The system starts out at $2,999 for an RTX 5070 Ti configuration. That bumps up to $3,499 for an RTX 5080. Our test configuration bumps to $4,099 for an RTX 5090 and also upgrades to Windows 11 Pro instead of Home. At the time of writing, these models were available from Micro Center except for the 5090 version. There, the prices showed some uncertainty. Micro Center’s list prices matched what MSI had presented us except for on our test configuration, which was raised to $4,299. That said, all systems showed significant discounts of $1,000-$1,300, which would change their value considerably. It’s unclear how long such discounts will be available, but they’d certainly help the MSI Raider 16 Max HX stand a chance against the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i 16 Gen 10. Foundry / Mark Knapp Like most 16-inch gaming laptops, the MSI Raider 16 Max HX is something of a tank. But it’s not altogether egregious. The system is wide, but not more than an inch wider than it needs to be to fit its display. Front to back, the laptop also avoids going overboard with an extensive rear end as seen on many recent gaming laptops. Alas, it’s thick, coming in at 1.14 inches, and that’s before accounting for the laptop’s rubber feet, which push it up toward 1.5 inches. That thickness comes with some benefits, at least. The MSI Raider 16 Max HX provides access to the memory and storage through a small panel underneath, and there’s a free M.2 slot ready for upgrading the storage. The thick design also allows for some serious cooling, which lets the MSI Raider 16 Max HX run its GPU at up to 175W and the CPU at up to 125W at the same time. Cool air gets pulled into the MSI Raider 16 Max HX by three fans through a series of grilles on the bottom and through two small ports above the keyboard. That air exhausts out two grilles on the sides and three on the rear. With the wide exhaust and space for large fans, the MSI Raider 16 Max HX is able to run under a heavy load while keeping fan noise below 50dBa from a typical arm’s length — a sound level I was able to verify. To be clear, that’s still noisy, but not quite blaring. While the build has its merits in terms of the performance it enables, there’s a little bit less to love about it beyond that. The bottom of the chassis is made of a cheap-feeling, rough plastic while the keyboard deck is a smoother plastic. The display lid is metal, at least. There’s not much keyboard deck flex, but the display wiggles whenever I type, and its glossy finish makes that wiggling more apparent. There’s plenty for the RGB lovers, though. An RGB light bar spans the front edge of the laptop, and that combines with an RGB keyboard and shield logo on the lid. The underside and lid exhibit some gamer aesthetics, but aren’t gaudy. The MSI Raider 16 Max HX includes a massive, 400W power brick that weighs almost three pounds on its own. Combined with the laptop’s 5.85-pound weight, it’s not the most portable option out there. But, you can opt to charge via USB-C on-the-go and use a smaller charger, you just won’t get full power. Foundry / Mark Knapp The MSI Raider 16 Max HX’s keyboard isn’t quite a masterpiece. While I was able to get up to 108 words-per-minute typing in Monkeytype with 98 percent accuracy, I still feel a little discomfort as the keycaps aren’t well stabilized and they lack much contour. I find that I struggle to keep centered on the keys and can wiggle or slip off the edges and hit neighbors, especially as I’m typing faster and faster. And that’s just basic typing. Doing more navigation and editing becomes something of a pain. The number pad is both cramped and laid out in a non-traditional way. For both data entry and calculation, it will be a major readjustment. Meanwhile, the arrow keys are slightly shrunken and cut into the right shift key’s space, which I find leads to lots of accidental presses. The keyboard does get per-key RGB lighting, but that only makes it prettier, not much more functional. The trackpad is decently sizable and has a good, smooth surface. But it doesn’t feel all that great otherwise. It has a cheap-feeling hardware click and even a bit of rattle when simply tapping to click. Foundry / Mark Knapp The MSI Raider 16 Max HX has a wonderful display for gaming. It’s a sharp 2560×1600 display with an OLED panel that simply looks fantastic. The screen offers perfect contrast and can hit very high brightness levels. In general, it’ll top out at 500 nits, but with HDR content I saw it hit as high as 614 nits for a full white window and 1,100 nits for a smaller 10 percent window. It provides that brightness and contrast alongside 99 percent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space and 100 percent coverage of the sRGB color space. It’s even accurate with a max dE1976 of 1.74, so you could safely use it for creative color work. That excellent quality is matched by a 240Hz refresh rate that makes games look wonderfully smooth. It’s very similar to the display on the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i 16 Gen 10, but you won’t find G-Sync or VRR support on this built-in display, whereas Lenovo had it. The MSI Raider 16 Max HX’s speaker setup is less impressive but respectable. It combines two tweeters and two woofers for a fuller sound. It lacks deep bass depth and ends up with a mid-heavy presentation. There’s a bit of undue sibilance from the setup at full volume that’s not entirely pleasant. For casual listening, they’re good enough and do a decent job covering up some of the system’s modest fan noise. The MSI Raider 16 Max HX’s webcam leaves plenty to be desired. It can look OK in bright lighting conditions, such as when facing a bright window. But in anything less, it really struggles to get adequate light and this results in a very noisy image. Still, it has its perks. Namely, it has Windows Hello facial recognition for quick and easy sign-ins. The mics aren’t any more special. They capture my voice fairly well, though with a good deal of room echo in the mix. They don’t cancel out all noises, such as clapping, but they do a good job with droning noises like fans or a lawn mower outside. Foundry / Mark Knapp The MSI Raider 16 Max HX provides great connectivity. It includes a pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports to handle all sorts of high-transmission needs, including USB PD 3.1 and DisplayPort Alt Mode, though that power delivery tops out at 140W, so won’t be enough to keep the laptop running at full tilt. Those ports are on the left side along with a full-size SD card reader. The right side includes two USB-A 10Gbps ports and a headset jack. The rear adds even more with an extra 10Gbps USB-A port, an HDMI 2.1 port, 2.5GbE. The laptop’s dedicated charging port is also in the back and looks confusingly similar to a USB-A port. The system offers tri-band Wi-Fi 7 connectivity as well, and this has been fast and stable in practice. Bluetooth lags a little behind with Bluetooth 5.4, though. The MSI Raider 16 Max HX is an extreme performance machine, but as with many technologies, it faces diminishing returns. And it can struggle with the confines of a laptop from time to time. Of course, for regular office work, the MSI Raider 16 Max HX is beyond capable. It soars in PCMark 10, showing that it has what it takes to deal with spreadsheets, webconferencing, as well as more creative tasks like photo and video editing. While the score over 10,000 points is impressive, most laptops over even just 5,000 will be fast enough for basic office use. The CPU performance of the MSI Raider 16 Max HX is also impressive, but highlights the importance of power profiles. The MSI Raider 16 Max HX’s Intel Core Ultra 9 290HX Plus isn’t fully unleashed in the default Balanced power plan, which caps it at 45W. We can see it lagging behind the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10’s and Alienware 16 Area-51 AW30’s Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX in raw performance in Cinebench R24, but when the MSI Raider 16 Max HX swaps over to its Apex Mode, granting the CPU up to 125W of power, it quickly leaps well ahead of the competition. The power allowance continues to play a big role in the returns the MSI Raider 16 Max HX is able to offer in graphical benchmarks as well. In 3DMark’s demanding Port Royal test, the MSI Raider 16 Max HX leads the pack with its RTX 5090, but it has a fairly narrow margin over the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10’s RTX 5080 until it swaps over to Apex Mode. Even though the Balanced mode allows the GPU to run at its full 175 watts, the CPU still plays a role in letting the GPU reach its full potential. While synthetic benchmarks let the MSI Raider 16 Max HX ultimately lead the way, actual gaming proves a slightly different story. The MSI Raider 16 Max HX is fast, but it’s not stunning next to the crowd. Its RTX 5090 narrowly lets it beat the Maingear Ultimate 18, and it needs Apex Mode to surmount the Alienware 16 Area-51. Worse still, even with Apex Mode, the MSI Raider 16 Max HX lags behind the cheaper, sleeker Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 10. It’s a similar struggle inMetro Exodus, which continues to stymie even extreme performance hardware like this with its demanding graphics. The MSI Raider 16 Max HX can lead the pack, but it’s a very narrow victory. The RTX 5090 adds alotto the price tag, but won’t do much in all gaming scenarios. Even inCyberpunk 2077, the field is tight for the MSI Raider 16 Max HX. This game is practically a showcase of Nvidia hardware capabilities, but the MSI Raider 16 Max HX can’t leverage its RTX 5090 to come out very far ahead of the Lenovo. It does highlight the importance of power and cooling when compared to the RTX 5090-powered Razer Blade 16, though. It’s only with ray-tracing enabled that the MSI Raider 16 Max HX gets a significant lead of close to 10-20 percent, but that still leaves it at 44fps normally and 47fps in Apex Mode. Overall the performance of the MSI Raider 16 Max HX is excellent, but it’s not exceptional. A higher-class of hardware should come with a higher-tier of performance, but at many turns, the MSI Raider 16 Max HX at best provides a marginal benefit and occasionally fails to come out ahead at all. The MSI Raider 16 Max HX makes a surprising turn when it comes to battery life. It’s very good about disabling the GPU when running on battery power (though you can override this if needed), and that leads to helpful power savings. This was enough to help the MSI Raider 16 Max HX run for a little over eight hours in our offline video playback test. That got it well ahead of most competitors save the Razer Blade 16, which struggled terribly in performance benchmarks. In active use, the power usage isn’t egregious either. I found the system regularly holding up for about five to six hours of runtime browsing the web and drafting articles. It’s not competing with thin-and-lights, but it’s solid for a gaming laptop. The MSI Raider 16 Max HX has some good things going for it. For a system packing such high-end components, it’s surprising that it isn’t bulkier. It has an excellent display and robust connectivity options, but that isn’t quite enough to set it apart from the pack. And while it can deliver extreme performance that lets it pull ahead of its competition, it doesn’t consistently outperform more affordable machines running on lower-tier hardware. Its leads are often quite narrow. As it stands, the MSI Raider 16 Max HX’s edge may be confined to specific use cases such as AI applications, where its specific hardware can shine. L'a.d.
